Of course, I should apply Scripture to my life! But more importantly, I need to apply my life to scripture. By that I mean that instead of seeking how the Scriptures fit into my life, I need to see where my life does and does not match up with Scripture, and make the necessary changes to act accordingly.
The WORD was not given to man for us to justify the actions and choices we want to pursue. It is life altering only in as much as each of us chooses to follow it.
15 “Do you become a king because you are competing in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink And do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.16 “He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy; Then it was well. Is not that what it means to know Me?” Declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 22:15&16
Do you claim to know God? As a Christian, I have a relationship with God. But Jeremiah tells me that to "know Him" means that I defend the cause of the afflicted & the needy. In all honesty, I have not sought to know God in this way for most of the years that I have known Him. He knows me better than I know myself. As I seek to "know Him," I shall pursue defending the cause of the poor and the needy. I no longer have any excuse for not deliberately putting up the effort to " know Him" in this way.
Tacos 4 Life, a local restaurant, partners with Feed My Starving Children to provide meals to children that would otherwise go hungry. Every time my family eats there, we are feeding more than our own stomach's. Each year, my family volunteers to work during a Mobile Manna Packing. We get to package the meals and box them up to be shipped out. It is only one small step for me, but it is a step in the right direction... defending the cause of the poor and the needy.
How has God uniquely designed you to plead the cause of the afflicted and needy? I would love for you to share your methods with us.
Lord,
Help me to be aware of opportunities as they arise that I, and my family, will remember that we are not blessed for the sake of the blessing.... we are blessed to be a blessing. May we always remember each blessing is Yours to give & to extend to others. May we always hold loosely to the earthly gifts and tightly to the spiritual gifts You give.
Thank you.
