I need you to know that I am not perfect, therefore I will not love you perfectly. Rest assured that I do love you. It is my desire to love you well. I just can’t love you perfectly.

However, God does perfectly, unconditionally love you. Romans 5:6-8 tells us that “while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. We can’t be perfect. We can’t be worthy. But the Good News is that we don’t have to be! He loves us unconditionally. Our hangups and our mistakes will never get in the way of His love. We can’t fall out of favor with God. Now, that doesn’t mean that we should go do whatever, regardless of the commandments that God has given us to follow. That love should inspire me to be a better version of myself. Not out of guilt or obligation but out of reciprocated love. If you see me stumbling about in the dark, you would turn on a light and help me get my footing. The same thing is true spiritually. When we see each other making wrong choices, we should shine the light of God’s truth on the situation and support each other in taking the next steps to get back on track. The light may hurt my eyes at first, but the assistance is well worth the discomfort. I may be embarrassed about looking foolish, but if I am, please remind me that no one is perfect. It’s good to remember that God’s love isn’t dependent on me always getting it right. Conflict can be beneficial if we address any issues as they arise instead of pretending the conflict doesn’t exist. Ignored conflicts can not be resolved. Don’t let a stumble in the dark become a tumble down the basement stairs. The longer the conflict festers, the more it will hurt. Resolving conflicts make the relationship stronger.
