Even the Begat's of Genesis Speak Gospel Truth...

I realize most people today don't give the meanings behind their names much thought. I, however, am fascinated by the topic. My brother, Porky (whole other Bunny Trail...) introduced me to the gospel in Genesis revealed in the begats when I was a fairly new believer. I admit I had a tendency to skim right past the long lists of names. Here's the TRUTH that he revealed to me in the genealogy from Adam through Noah in Genesis 49.

Adam (man) -> Seth (appointed) -> Enosh (mortal) -> Kenan (sorrow) -> Mahalalel (Blessed God) -> Jared (shall come down)  -> Enoch (teaching) -> Methuselah (his death shall bring)  -> Lamech (despairing) -> Noah (rest/comfort)

Man appointed mortal sorrow, the Blessed God shall come down teaching His death shall bring the despairing rest & comfort.

God created everything and said, "It is good." Then sin entered the picture. Since the consequence of sin is death and broken fellowship with God, mankind was appointed mortal sorrow. But, the good news tells us that the Blessed God, Emmanuel, took on flesh and came down to live among us. He taught the disciples that his death would bring the despairing rest & comfort... for if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)

Father,

Help me remember that every word...even every letter of scripture down to the dotted i and the crossed t is there for a reason. Open my eyes to see the truth as you reveal it in the scriptures. Open my heart to receive the truth to transform my life by your grace alone. May my fascination with your every word only grow deeper.
